and the snarky messages when you get it wrong — those are just us being funny (or trying to be).
They are not clues.
They rotate daily for variety. Don't read into them. Seriously.

Points
Every puzzle is a chance to score. Here's how the maths works:
Mon–Sat puzzle (up to 10 points per day)

Words:
5 points
if you solve without the Backstage Console;
1 point
if you use it.

Ingrain Word:
+5 points
when correct. Miss it and that's it — no second chances.
Stings a bit, doesn't it? Good. Builds character.
Sunday XL (up to 15 points)

10 points
without Backstage;
2 points
with it. Same Ingrain Word bonus as other days.
Secret category (up to 10 points for a Monday guess)

Guess it early for maximum points:
Mon = 10,
Tue = 6,
Wed = 5,
Thu = 4,
Fri = 3,
Sat = 2,
Sun = 1.
Patience is a virtue. Impatience is more fun.

−1 point each time.

Six Mon–Sat days at up to 10 each, one Sunday XL at up to 15, plus 10 for a Monday category guess = 85.
